Welcome to Rochelle’s Figure Skating Weblog, where I will discuss my thoughts and experiences as a(n):

• current semi-competitive adult skater, who trained as a competitive skater as a teenager
• USFS (U.S. Figure Skating) Learn-to-Skate group instructor and beginner freestyle private lesson instructor/coach
• prospective USFS figure skating judge working towards her first appointment

Why?: I’ll be honest that my main motivation for keeping this blog was to fulfill a requirement for one of my senior journalism courses at Franklin College (JOU 435: Advanced Interactive Media Design). However, I have been toying with keeping a blog on such a topic for over a year now, since my involvement in figure skating transcends several layers of our sport and will only (hopefully) continue to grow. I’ve now GRADUATED from Franklin College with my B.A. (Public Relations and Journalism Visual Communication), and so far I’m still continuing my blog.

How often will I be posting?: I’m required to post one entry at least once a week. However, it is likely that I will post brief entries more frequently when issues, thoughts, and experiences permit.

‘Where I’m coming from’: So that you can understand my perspective a little bit better before I fully launch into my blog, over the next week I will share individual posts about:

• my experiences as a teenage competitive skater
• my recent challenges as a skater (relatively) new to adult-track competitive levels who defies the stereotype by currently working on my Olympic-level Senior Moves-in-the-field test
• my recent experience, triumphs and trials as a skating group and private instructor
• my initial experiences working towards my first judging appointment (certification)
